Hi guys,

I 've just tried to update the BIOS on my Asus P8Z77-V PRO mobo and it now does not post. It was running BIOS ver. 1015 with no problems. I downloaded the BIOS file for ver. 1206 (latest version) from the Asus website and proceeded with the update by selecting the file in the BIOS update utility in Asus AI Suite II. It flashed the BIOS and said it was successful and asked to reboot, I clicked restart and now nothing - no post screen.

I've tried resetting the CMOS using the jumper and also moving my DVI connector from my GTX670 to the onboard Intel graphics DVI port with no luck. When I look at the mobo on power on I can see a green light and a red light, not sure what this means? I've tried removing power fully and restarting too.

I hope I don't need a new mobo now. Also, I am running Windows 8 RP, could this have upset the BIOS update process somehow? AI suite II and the update utility were working fine.

Please help guys, thanks so much.

PS> my monitor does not even come out of standby on power on - no ASUS screen :(

Rule no.1 don't update the BIOS unless you need to. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Rule no.2 don't use software utilities to update the BIOS.

Anyhow.....

Did you make sure to disconnect the power supply from the mains before clearing the CMOS?

It's also a good idea to hold the power switch down for a few seconds to discharge any remaining power after you've disconnected from the mains.

Edit:

Which LEDs are lit?

Which one is red?

Hi Surveyor,

Thank you for the quick reply. After scanning through the mobo manual I've managed to fix it using the USB BIOS flashback feature. I'm so relieved!!! I downloaded the image of the previous BIOS from the ASUS website onto my other PC and copied it to a USB stick and used the flashback feature and it's all back to normal now. I'll make sure I follow rules 1 & 2 in the future. As you said, there was no need to update as everything was working fine.

Looking at the diagram in your post, it was the VGA card LED that was illuminated (red). Could this mean that new BIOS was not liking my GTX670?

I'll leave the BIOS flashing alone now!

Thanks so much again.

Glad you've got it sorted.

Maybe there was some strange quirk with the new BIOS that didn't like your graphics card.

It's another reason why "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies.
