Hi all,

This is my first post and looking for some help. I currently have:

GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35, Intel E6750 OC, 4GB Corsair DDR2, BFG 8800GT

I'm thinking of upgrading the graphics card. But I don't know which to get.

BFG 285 OCX (Do I need to spend that much)

BFG 260 Maxcore (Bit old now?)

XFX 4870HD 1GB

I'm thinking sticking with nvidia as this PC is used by the whole family so I could really do without formating the hard drive to install ATI drivers as I hear this is the best way? Is this right? and then install all the apps again. With another nvidia car I should be able to slot it in without formating?

Wanting to play Emipre Total War, Far Cry 2, Alan Wake (When out)

However next Jan-Feb I wish to build a total new i7 PC. Should I wait and power on with the 8800GT or swap now and use the card in the build next year?

Welcome to the forums. :)

You wouldn't need to format and reinstall your apps if going to ATi, you would just need to remove your Nvidia drivers, swap the cards over, then just install the ATi drivers.

The 285 is not worth buying as its only an overclocked 280, but more expensive, and its even around the same price as the much faster 4870 x2 (which you could also get, depending on what res you use, and if you have enough power for one), or id either look around for a 280, as they can be had pretty cheap now, or if you can't find one, then id say the 4870 1gb out of that and the 260, as both are around the same performance, but the 4870 1gb is cheaper and has more memory, or if you could wait till April, you could see what the 4890's are like, as they are supposedly around 20% faster than the 4870's, and they may push the 4870 prices down.

Id get this 4870 though over the XFX, as its cheaper (till sometime on Wednesday due to being on special), as it has a better cooler, and is higher clocked.

What PSU do you have btw.

EDIT: just seen the 4870's are going to get their prices slashed.

I thought if I went to ATI I would have to re-install everything. Thats what was putting me off especially with steam and all the other games.

I have OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply would that be Ok

So I now have to choose between the ATI 4870, BFG 260 OR WAIT.........
