as title say's.
i did post a good while ago about this and had a couple replies but can't make a good decision what to buy.i have now got some ££ to spend on a slr up to £800 on camera and upto £200 on lenses, may be bit more.had two canon's slr 350d and also a 400 or 450d can't remember which it was,as it was a while ago.was quite happy with them then.
i want something that's a good all rounder. am free and easy to which brand canon or nikon offers.
i like taking portraits, landscapes and so on

thx

Personally I think it is really hard to beat the Nikon D5100 + 18-105mm offers at £500, leaving plenty of cash left over to buy some different lenses like the Nikon 35mm f/1.8DX and/or a 70-300 of sorts.

Next best offer is a Nikon D7000, body only at £630 or so, £785 with the 18-105.
The Nikon 16-85 VRII lens is sharper and wider, much better built, weather sealed, better AF, better VR but ti is quite expensive at £440 relative to the 18-105 kit lens.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX is a bargain at £150. In fact all the Nikon 1.8G lenses give fantastic image quality at very low price points, can't go wrong with the 28/35/50/85mm f/1.8 G lenses.

On the canon side, if you shoot a lot of landscapes then then the older canon bodies are going to be fine. Canon really hasn't progressed their sensors much at all since the 350D days. DxoMark even made a nice graph to highlight the lack of improvements in terms of noise and DR: http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Pu...s-no-improvement-in-sensor-scores/Comparisons

This means you could pick up something like a used Canon 400D at a bargain price and have images much the same as you would get out the latest Canon crop offering.
