Hi All,

I know there are probably a million and one post's about this but i cant really
find anything helpful about.

I am looking to upgrade from OcuK after Christmas and I want to upgrade my
CPU, Motherboard and RAM.

I have been reading a lot into which is better for gaming and im just confused
by which I should get, Should I upgrade to an i7 CPU or i5 CPU.

I will be using the system for gaming and I intend to upgrade the motherboard
and RAM at the same time.

I currently have:

Quad Core Q9300 2.5GHz
Asus P5NE-Sli
Ati Radeon 5770 1Ghz
Corsair Dominator RAM 4GB

Please give me your honest opinion thanks.

P.S. Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a happy new year.

What advantage will the new SB give me over gaming rather that the i5 or i7???

As I dont know much about the new SB range of CPU's

Thanks for the reply

Nobody does - they're not out yet.

That's what you're waiting to find out - I'd be surprised if they're worse than i5 though!

Looking at your current rig - it's actually not that bad.
You could probably keep it going for another 6 months or so with just a graphics card upgrade. (570)

Thanks for the reply m8,

Yeh i would stay with my current rig, but the wife has said that since we have
the extra money at the minute i can upgrade my PC if i want to and i want to
do it while she is in a good mood lol.

Which is why i wanted to get the i5 or i7 i just dont know which is best for
gaming thats all.

Hmmmm, the smart money is on waiting to sandy bridge, even if you're buying into i5/i7, as it's likely to be discounted.

i7 on 1366 would see you through sandy bridge and more though, but it's a dead socket if you care. Will outperform SB however, for the most part I should think.

Just from the few replies I have had on this post it seems I should wait for the SB.

Even if it is just so the I5 or I7 will be cheaper when that is released.

I'm not bothered whether it is a dead socket or not as long as I can put a new GFX card on
the board when I have the money for that.

Thanks for the replies guys and Merry Xmas.

And the same to you.

Sandy Bridge will no doubt be extensively covered at CES in January, keep your eyes open for that on the news sites, might see something you like!
