Please help, what's wrong?

Got hold of the orange box today, looking forward to playing.

Started the installation, Steam installed, but then comes up with:

Steam.exe (main exception):
Unable to load library steam.dll

Then It wont continue to install any of the other games.
Any ideas what might be causing it?

Running Vista x64, latest drivers for everything

Ive tried reinstalling steam a couple of times, it doesn't seem to make a difference

Yea, I tried looking for the admin option like that, but there isnt one there

The install is from the orange box disk though, I have tried downloading it from the website too

I don't get it, I've had Steam running on this machine before, but I uninstalled it

Ive got avast running and windows defender,
I tried installing/running with avast disabled but with no luck

I wish I'd never uninstalled it now

I just cant find the connection problem, Windows Firewall is quite limited, I dont have much experience with avast but is there some setting within that which I need to adjust?

Here is a list of all the programs I have running which a re vaguely connected to the internet:

Windows Firewall
Avast 4.7 Home
Spybot 1.5
Spyware Blaster 3.5.1

I've tried installing numerous times, under several conditions, with several different installs.

I tried deleting that file, but it didn't seem to make any difference to me, but thanks.

ooh, something different, its now saying that it cant find steamUI.dll, probably because I manually gave it the steam.dll

Right, I've resigned myself to the conclusion that it isn't my computer.

I've tried every conceivable combination of software installation and setup, so it simply cannot be on my computer. I believe that whatever ports are required by steam they must be being blocked by the network I'm on here in my halls

So no HL for me until Christmas, where I can install everything at home. Hopefully once steam is up and running I'll be able to access games in offline mode.
