Hey there,
I'm looking for a new moniter, I have decided to get a 20" widescreen moniter as my laptop has a 17" widescreen and I like it a lot. But I think a 17" may be a bit small for my desk top. I'm not really into playing games, just surfing the net and doing work.

I've seen a few that I like the look of..

Dell Ultrasharp E207WFP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black

Samsung SM-205BW 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black

Belinea 102030W 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver

Thanks for your help.

Having seen some 20" widescreen monitors I don't feel that they offer as much or a real increase over 17" standard screens as I had expected.

For the same money you could also consider the 22" Belinea. The only drawback on both the Belinea screens is that they only have 1x Analog input (I think). They don't have a digital (DVI) input as far as I can tell.

But surely for less money, the 22" version is a better buy than the 20"!! :D

I hadn't seen the 22" Belinea it does look quite good value for money.

Bit of a stupid question but is the 800:1 contrast ratio of the dell better than the 700:1 of the Samsung?

i dont think it's wise to judge these screns purely by their specs on paper. As a start, check here to find out what the specs mean for contrast ratio etc. One thing to bare in mind here is that the Belinea 102030W uses a P-MVA technology panel, which is far more rounded and versatile than the TN Film panels of the other models mentioned here. The Samsung SM205BW is a decent TN Film model though, i found it to be a good performer (link). The 22" Belinea 2225S1W is also very well priced, and if you want a bigger screen, it might be a good choice :)

...The Samsung is only 199 quid. How much are the others?

Its £240
The Dell is £199 as its been reduced so hopefully it won't go back up before I have the money to buy it.

...The Samsung is only £199 and I bought 2 :)

Great monitors would suit your needs. I don't think they look too small on the desktop either.
