Please help with my PC upgrade

So my computer is being bottle necked by something and i think it's the CPU, lately my PC i taking literally 3 minutes to start up now if someone can help me identify the problem i would be most grateful!

Specs are as follows:
Intel 1.5-3470 3.20@ghz -(I think this is the problem)
NVIDIA MSI GTX 970 GPU
Corsair CX750 powersupply
8GB RAM
64 BIT

If i'm correct in saying it's the CPU then i was looking at getting this CPU and Fan in replacement:

Intel Core BX80646I74790K i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)
by Intel

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)

With my current setup if i were to get that CPU would my 750W Power supply be able to run it, this is for 'hardcore gaming'
Any help would be deeply appreciated, thanks for your help!

P.S sorry if iv'e said something that doesnt make sense, i'm not the best with computers, also not sure if this is in the right forum thread not very good with these things :D

You could try overclocking your CPU but an I7 4790 with that PSU is fine.

Check what you have in your startup folder, on your toolbar next to the clock and in your startup in the registry (use something like CCLeaner too)

Thanks for the heads up on the links :)

Just didn't want to buy new components and not have enough power for it, already have CCleaner works quite well. Sounds stupid but is there a good way to clean out a computer, a can of compressed air doesn't seem to do the job and don't want to stick a hoover near my PC because of the static, thanks for your reply, much appreciated!

If you changed to the 4790k you will also need a new motherboard as it's a different socket to your current Ivybridge cpu.

Is there a CPU that's 'newer' and better than mine that i wouldn't need to change the motherboard for or are the new ones all the same, if you have any you could suggest that would be great. If all the new CPU's use the different sockets to the one i have, how much are decent motherboards.

Sorry about me seeming like i need to be baby fed this information but like i said i'm not very good with computers and unless it's told to me it's pretty difficult for me to understand it, thanks in advance :0

Definitely get an ssd as your boot drive, that'll help move things along and will improve your startup times by more than a new cpu would. Whether or not you update your cpu depends on your budget and what your current performance is like in games.

Exactly what he said! My Rig is all i have to spend money on at the moment so i don't see why i can't just spend all my money on it, so might just go on a shopping spree :D My games run fairly well but not as smooth as i would like. Only problem i would face would be spacing in my computer which would mean i would need another case. Such a domino effect with upgrading parts :'(

would this be over kill for the CPU i was going to get (if i get it): MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard, both have the 1150 socket so i would assume it works?

CCleaner will not solve everything on an old PC, as an example I had an old family PC that ran great for years but got slower and slower, then the USB's stopped working, it wanted to format every camera and phone connected.

I ran CCleaner, deleted Appdata, updated this, deleted that, and used MSconfig to ensure the bare minimum started upon startup.

But the only thing that resolved it was a complete fresh re-install. Turned out years of different USB drives needing device software installs had messed it up most, not to mention a host of installed and upgraded components.

I would recommend copying all files, music, photo's etc you want to keep onto another hard drive, and buying an SSD, 240gb maybe, and re-installing your OS on that, and only the programs you use. I bought an external drive, made it shared, and copied everything I wanted to keep, then unplugged it, then deleted and formatted my PC's hard drive. Then took the PC apart, cleaned everything, rebuilt with an SSD as drive C, using the HDD as the storage drive. Fresh install of Windows 7 64bit, SSD software, GPU software, and pretty much that was it. Plugged in the external drive and copied my stuff back onto drive E for my file storage, and installed Steam on drive E for my games.

I use a can of compressed air on my PC to blow dust out, I run a hoover nearbye to get the dust that blows out in the expelled air, I sometimes also use a soft half inch paint brush to gently brush out dust, again with a hoover pulling dusty air away from it all. Just make sure it is all powered off and been disconnected from the mains for an hour or so.

Even on my old LGA-775 systems, a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit and only the programs I have used that last three months works wonders.
When Windows 10 Beta was available to test I used an old slow PC, just rebuilt it as I described and added a 120gb SSD for the test. It was a fantastic speed boost.

Your current hardware including the i5 3470 will be fine for a while yet, I game with an i7 4770K running stock 3.5Ghz with a 120mm fan cooler, but a poorer GPU than you and it's fine, usually an 8 second boot, sometimes 18.

Thanks for the reply, i must admit it's probably a 50/50 situation here, i think the last time i did a reset to factory settings was probably in 2013, i don't have music or photos on my computer it's just games, but i have a lot of games which is my problem. An SSD seems to be the route of my start up problems, i'm using windows 7 by the way. I don't really want to change from it, it's my favorite version :')
