Hi, Im not sure this is the right place to post but I need help regarding a project.

I am wanting to take a sata power feed Male and convert it to molex as follows..

Sata male power lead from psu -> female sata / female molex adaptor then to a male to female extension cable which will go into a sunbeam fan controller for powering 6 fans that has a male molex.

can this be done? I have seen female to male molex convertors but can i plug the male psu sata power lead into this and so on?

Thanks

Daz

Bump anyone?

The reason for needing a adaptor is that the dell machine only has sata power and no molex and I would like to power the external fans from the psu.

Edit: oops :p

Electrically I don't think there's a problem, but I suppose it depends how much power the fan controller draws as SATA probably isn't specced to provide as much power as molex.

Sata power feed ( yellow/black/red/black/orange) is the same as a molex, you just omit the 5th wire ( Orange ) and connect a molex fitting to the end.

Simple bit of soldering.

Or,

Google ' SATA to Molex Power Adapter '

This adapter changes the new SATA power connector back to the older Molex connector found on IDE Hard Drives and Optical Drives.

About £3.50
