Hi Guys,

I know im new to this forum but please help :)

I have just got my self a new laptop from dell... a Inspiron 1720...

It came within Windows Vista that i just cannot get on with so i formated the HD and installed windows XP...

Its took me 2 days so far to get the drivers for it and all was working well untill this afternoon...

I installed the drivers for the Network Card, Modem, Webcam, and managed to get the "USB Root Hub" bits to show up without a yellow mark next to em...

Anyway Since doing this I now dont have any sound... Well not within windows after logging in anyway.

When the computer starts up I get the standard windows "chimes" and then the sounds cuts out... if i reinstall the drivers it works for one "beep" (the sound of the warning box thinggy saying that it is installed ok) then it stops again...

I have now disabled the Network crad, Modem, webcam and some other bits but it still kills the sound...

Does anybody here have any idea how i can find out what is wrong?

Many thanks

Kirk

You should have spent more time with Vista.
My Vista looks like I'm working in XP and all you have to do is turn a few things off or put in Classic XP mode.

If its a Dell you may be lucky that you can get your laptop back to how you bought it.
Dell usually put the installation files on another partition and you can find the setup from one of your function keys when booting up.

Personally, I'd try to get it back how you bought it and turn all the Vista crud off.

(I can't help with your original problem except for uninstall sound drivers, install, uninstall, install)

Thx for the advice...

I have now installed vista... and installed most the drivers :)

Can you please give me some pointers for getting it to look like windows xp?

Cheers

Kirk
