Right ok, ive recently bought a new Gaming pc and decided to hook it up the net today however im having problems doing so, i've never used a Router before and never needed to use the internet for more than 1 computer either so i thinks its me setting it up wrong. Ive got a Sagem f@st 800 Modem and the Linksys BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch Router. I can connect to this computer fine with the modem but i cant connect to either computer with the router nor the modem to the new computer as im running Vista64 and my modem sais its not compatitble.
Ive tried following the tutorial the router disc gives you but tis layed out in XP style and so doesnt look like what it does on my new pc. All im doing is connect a line from the phone socket to a DSL Filter into the router then using an Ethernet cable (the blue one) straight into the back of my PC, ive not really messed around with the network settings on Vista as i dont really know what any of it is, so any help would be greatly apreciated, thnx in advance.

PS: might be helpful i dunno, this computer is Windows XP Home Edition and im on tiscali 2mb.

You're using a "cable/DSL" router (which doesn't have a modem) with ADSL (which needs a modem). The USB modem's no use to you.

The connection between the machines and router should be plug and play - there shouldn't be any wizard needed.

For an easy life, you're going to need an ethernet modem, not a USB modem.

You could configure it so that the USB modem is plugged into the XP box, share the connection, plug an ethernet cable into the router and from that to any other machine... It would work, but would be fairly pointless having the router.

At the end of the day - that's a workaround and you're better off getting an adsl ethernet modem (phone socket --> adsl filter --> ethernet modem --> router --> pcs) so that you can enjoy all the features of your router.

That one should do the job, but if you can return the router in favour of a proper ADSL router you're going to get a much easier setup.
