Please Help.... Thanks Guys

I am having troube with my PC not sure whats at fault hope someone can help me chose which part to send back!

Problem:
Playing RCT3 game I left the room came back in and the PC was restarting so i let it, then got the blue screen of death. I then restarted again and the Mainboard logo screen was manly ok but had strange lines across it. it then froze so i did a hard shutdown. The PC was not overclocked and never has been nor was it overheating. that was a week ago today I tried again got into the Bios still with strange lines across, I reset all to default even though i never changed it. it then started to load windows (vista) then the blue screen again.

What am i not sure about?
Well im guessing its the mainboard or the video card. MY main board has a LED display for faults. At boot it flashed lots of numbers up and very fast then settles on the letters FF I have no idea what this is but i noticed from new its always said FF on it I only just found out it is a diagnostic display.

I dont have another Video card to test the main board nor another computer to test the video card.

Try with one ram stick in at a time, then you really need to try with a different graphics card or at least try the card on another system to rule that out

Sounds a lot like video RAM fault, which would be painful given it's a GTX280. Definitley try it in another motherboard if you can. The hex display is the POST progress, reaching FF usually means it passed OK.

I have no way of testing it as nobdy i know has a PC that it will fit in... will have to see what OCUK says. its only a couple of months old!!! Unless you let me come to your house in macc lol

my boss in work had similar symptoms and had to change the mobo.

your best bet is to strip it down to the key components and test - if you cant lose the problem with just mobo, cpu, gpu, psu, memory, you'll need to take out each part and try in another machine until you find the defective product, if you dont find it - its your mobo.

lmao right your are!.

Just an update for anyone else that may encounter this in the future.
Spoke to OCUK who replied very fast even though its the holidays. They said i sould test the memory with Memtest 86 and the graphix card with furmark. I ran the memory test for a few hours it did not find a fault untill random smiley faces and letters started to randomaly appear on screen but it seemed to be testing so i let it carry on for a while then i restarted the PC and all seemed well no lines of random text and Vista booted as normal. while the going was good I installed furmark graphix diagnostic utility and let it go on burn in and heat test it was averaging 37fpm and settled on at temp of 81'C for about 20 mins then I got the blue screen of death (such a nice colour)

Anyway it restarts and their is the random lines of text again I am running another memory test as i speak to confirm but I think now its the memory. I am going to remove 1 stick as suggested above and try them on their own.

Just a quick thanks to the guys who replyed and to OCUK for a fast responce.
