Please help!!

I was stupid and downloaded a piece of software, and before I checked it with the antivirus I have activated, intalled fine, but when opened a crack it asked if I want to open, then offered to open through the Windows Media Center and nothing happened, but then now every single icon of the programs looks like media center document, and when I click on anything it launces it!! How do I go abput undoing it?? I have a Viao laptop.. And I don't believe I have a restore disk
 
my flatmate had a look and he said it is a level 2 virus, cos he went through safe mode to reset the file regedit or something... weill thing is all exe files wouldn't run normally... it always launches media center... lucky I found restore disks... I will try to run it now
 
he said it is one which corrupts the files but the one that harms the software... if I understood correctly. He said the problem is that all .exe fils open in wrong software... and it doesn't let him to fix it in bios... he called his brother who is an admin or somethin and both couldn't fix it... I found a vaio restore disk and currently restoring the system... I only pray that it would go ok... first time doing it... and it is Xmas after all... T__T
Please, I'm sorry for disturbing you guys here... but I'm an dummy when it comes to PCs so I need your help in these questions... Sorry to be stupid...
