Hey Guys,

I have just installed a new gfx card the geforce 460 gtx and now when I shut down my pc (it does shut down or seems to), but 3 seconds later it turns itself back on.

I have googled for hours and found out other people have issues with this (not due to the installing of a video card though). So I have tried all the advice they have given from switching off all wake on stuff in the BIOS to turning off the automatically reset computer on error under the start up and recovery options.

I have updated the Bios and have the latest nvidia drivers, although I'm not sure it can be a windows fault if the pc actually shuts down.?.

Here is my spec;

windows 7 64bit
msi p6t deluxe
intel i7
geforce gtx 460
620 watt psu
6gb
ssd 60gb

It is driving me mad as I have to hold down the button every time I want to turn the pc off.

Please if anyone tech savvy can give me any more advice I would gratefully appreciate it.

Hey Cookeh,

Yeah I am 100% sure I have been shutting down :P
I have also right clicked on start and selected shutdown under the power button action hehe. (not that i'm pressing the power button... although I have tried it(still does the same))

There is nothing installed in windows that should be waking it up, so it is really strange. I am really trying to resolve this without a clean install :D

I am really hoping you guys can help me

Hmm, I'm not so sure anymore.

It don't think its hardware related - is it the GTX460 that starts up before rest of system? i.e. does it spin up before cpu fan and HDDs?

Have you tried a different graphics card in there, to see if it is the GTX460?

Might be worth asking this question in the Windows & Other Software Sub-forum - they might come up with some other ideas?

It doesn't start up before the system it all starts up the same time as it normally did.

I haven't tried putting my old card back in as it was an 8800gts and it was massive... It took me half an hour to get it out :(

I'm sure I haven't shorted anything as the card is working fine with games and such atm.

I thought about posting this in there but would I get banned for reposting? I am new here and wasn't sure if they thought I was "flooding" the forum.

Banned? If you do then the Mod who banned you would need sacking.

Only other thing I can think of is trying the old 8800GTS - pain that it will be :(

That said, I'm not big on software :p

ok, I will give that another go.. I just don't wanna risk damaging the board getting it back in. :o

I will post it in the software thread too and see what happens.

Thanks Cookeh

if anyone else has any ideas let me know
