Hey Guys,

I have just installed a new gfx card the geforce 460 gtx and now when I shut down my pc (it does shut down or seems to), but 3 seconds later it turns itself back on.

I have googled for hours and found out other people have issues with this (not due to the installing of a video card though). So I have tried all the advice they have given from switching off all wake on stuff in the BIOS to turning off the automatically reset computer on error under the start up and recovery options.

I have updated the Bios and have the latest nvidia drivers, although I'm not sure it can be a windows fault if the pc actually shuts down.?.

Here is my spec;

windows 7 64bit
msi p6t deluxe
intel i7
geforce gtx 460
620 watt psu
6gb
ssd 60gb

It is driving me mad as I have to hold down the button every time I want to turn the pc off.

Please if anyone tech savvy can give me any more advice I would gratefully appreciate it.

I can't see anything in the event log that is waking it up?

I don't have a wake on LAN enabled... Well, I couldn't find it in the BIOS, so I presume that my board doesn't support it.

Yeah I know of the option, it's when you right click start - properties then it's there... but that's for when you actually physically press the power button. I have tried this and pressing the power button (with this option 'shutdown' selected) does the same thing.

Halfmad, Yeah I did check the jumpers and stuff as on another forum they said the power and reset could be the wrong way around haha. This wasn't the case with my problem as it's all fine.

I have reseated all chips too as I thought it might be shorting out when it tries to power down (although it's weird that it seems to turn off for a few seconds).

Hey guys, I ended up taking everything out of the case and reseating all jumpers cards and connectors. (I did the battery and front panel stuff again too) and it seems to be working now.

Maybe it was that I didn't take the battery out for long enough last time or something? But anyways thank you for everyone who gave some advice.
