PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Hiya all.

Im currently working on my mothers PC and somehow she has managed to download a program called system defender, its a nuisance.

It keeps popping up advising of viruses etc and wanting a fee for activation. Its a blatant con.

Has anybody else had problems with it?? And HOW do I shift it??


Tried runnin Mcafee as its a dell they have and it finds nothing. I cant turn on windows defender either

Normally the first thing people will say is use Malware Bytes (may need to go into safe mode).

Give it a whirl first.

Download Malwarebytes from here on a clean machine, put it on a pen drive/CD

Boot the machine into safe mode (F8 on start) - type "msconfig" into the Run box in the start menu, select the Startup tab in the window that appears and deselect everything. Reboot, again into safemode but "with networking", and install Malwarebytes. Allow mbam to update and run a quick scan.

It should find a rake of files/reg entries etc and remove them. After the reboot, boot into normal mode and startup Malwarebytes again. This time run a full scan

This should mop up the rest of the nasties

just done same on boys netbook and now clean (he had system tool spyware)

must do it in safe mode.

Although that the others have covered it, malwarebytes is your friend.

However, if it doesn't work:

Bleeping computer is good for removing rogues.

Super Antispyware is another good anti-spam program. It has, on occasion, found stuff that MBAM has missed.
