Hello!

Iv`e just bought myself the Enermax "Galaxy 850W EGX850EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU" as reasons in this topic:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=9743566#post9743566

but when I received it and put it into my case, I noticed that the main power supply motherboard cable on the PSU is a 24 pin connector and the ATX power connector on my current motherboard has 20 pins and therefore this new PSU wont work :(

Was wondering if there is anyway I could get the PSU working on a motherboard that has a 20 pin power connector, something like a 24 pin power connector to 20 pin adapter, if there is such a thing? or am i screwed?

Kind regards

You should (space alongside the motherboard connector permitting) still be able to use it.

The 24 pin connector added 4 pins to the end of the older standard connector (normally these 4 pins will either unclip and become a seperate 4 pin plug, or you get an adaptor), but should still plug into the motherboard assuming there is nothing in the way, as they are (or should be) keyed so that the extra connectors overhang the motherboard.

If that doesn't work you can get 24pin to 20 pin adaptors that plug on the PSU cable to do the conversion (a lot of PSU's come with these), i'm guessing Enermax assumed that anyone using on of these PSU's would have a 24pin connection on the motherboard and thought it ok to save a few pence.

I would need a 24pin to 20 pin adaptor because the extra 4 pins on the Enermax unforchently doesn’t unclip :(

Do OcUK sell those adaptors or anyone knows of a uk online shop that does and will accept UK Maestro Card, like OcUK?

Thank You!

It doesn't matter that they don't unclip, as Werewolf says, the extra 4 pins just overhang the end of the socket assuming there's nothing on the motherboard to block them.

If the block is solid then that won't work as the plastic surround on the motherboard connector would prevent it.

Iv`e already tried to overhang the 24pin to the end of the socket on my motherboard but the sides of the motherboard socket is to thick and therefore wont fit on

You could always slice the side of the connector off and file it to fit, but i wouldn't do that to such an expensive PSU.
I'd advise you to get the connector BlackDragon posted, it will work :)

so the 24pin to 20 pin adaptor will definitely do the trick and fully work?

Well, i`m just going to get myself one of those 24 pin to 20 pin adaptor things from OcUK instead of trying my luck by taking things apart

You know, Enermax should have supplied one of these adaptors included in the box or at least allowed you to clip off the extra pins. :(

Anyways, thanks so much OcUK members for your help ;)
