Essentially, I have one 320gb OS drive (Vista 64 pre-installed), and two 1TB WD Black drives I wanted to use in RAID 1 (mirror) for storage.

I set up RAID 1 with the two 1TB drives using Cntrl I in BIOS, and selected RAID mode under SATA storage configuration in the BIOS also.

However, Windows now no longer boots. And instead goes to a blue screen followed by a very quick restart just after the loading bar. Any ideas?

Do I need to install any further drivers or anything like that. Really important I get this RAID 1 set up (only on the back up, non OS drives). recently a drive of mine containing very important work died, the charge for data retrieval is daylight robbery. I just don't want this risk ever again, and I feel RAID 1 is ideal.

Yes, you need the RAID drivers installed to be able to access any drives on the RAID controller. Try switching the controller back to IDE mode then see if the drivers from the mobo CD will install. You may be in a Catch-22 situation where you can't install the RAID drivers if the controller isn't configured for RAID and you can't boot to install them if it is. There's probably a way round this and I expect someone else will tell us.

On a more general note, RAID 1 is not a substitute for proper backup procedures and that's what was really lacking when you lost data.
