Hello,

Please help, i have been struggling for days trying to install windows via bootable USB.

I get to the stage where it's about to install and then it asks me for drivers. I have done research and this is due to the usb 3.0 ports not being able to work properly out of the box. I have put all the drivers on the usb, obtained from the gigabyte website, including the SATA/PCIe RST premium controller which is says on the site is required for installing windows via USB, and the drivers wont install. So i am now in limbo state.

What am i supposed to do? This mobo ONLY has usb 3.0 ports so there is nothing else i can do? Has anyone else with this kind of mother board got windows to install via usb successfully?

Mother board is the Z390 M Gaming mATX and i am using an i9900k cpu.

Thank you.

Could you put the windows boot image onto a dvd disk if you have an optical drive installed?

What drivers is it wanting? Usb3? Maybe try a USB 3 stick?

i just installed windows 10 pro on a gigabytes AORUS Master using a ft panel usb 3.0, and kept getting asked for drivers as well (i was installing windows pre-installed on the usb by microsoft. I caught the fact i had formatted the target OS drive and it should have been left unallocated (no partition, no formatting etc). Install went smooth after that and i installed the drivers later after i had windows up and running

in case, there's a guide for a clean installation over on Tomshardware web http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3567655/clean-installation-windows.html

Question, i can't boot from USB at all at the same motherboard. (gigabyte, z390 m gaming) It keeps returning it to my BIOS.
I created a bootable USB and used a windows ISO from Microsoft.
What to try next? Suggestoins?

If a Z390 motherboard can't boot from any of its USB ports, then I'd consider it faulty. You shouldn't need to find workarounds to be able to install an OS or even run a live OS off USB.

Resorting to booting from a DVD may have been acceptable 5+ years ago, but this is a Z390 motherboard.

Is a refund or getting a different board as a replacement an option?

Although, having said that, I just had another read of your post and it seems like you did in fact manage to boot from the Windows 10 boot USB, get past the partitioning and choosing partition to install to, but got stuck at the installation part. If that is the case, it'd be strange for it to be a USB driver issue as you were able to boot from the USB drive just fine.

Have you tried a different USB drive?
