Hiya all,

I purchased this from OCUK http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-134-OE

It's all set up and running fine, seems stable etc. However the bios is reporting that my CPU temp 50c idle, but Both real temp and core temp are saying 25C idle. The other thing is that I ran Prime95 for about 5 minutes and the temps sat at 80c, is that ok for the i5-3570k @ 4.6? It's a gaming rig only with heavy use of Flight Sim X, so I should never be stressing it like Prime95 would.

Thanks for any info guys.

80c at load is about spot on under prime tbh. Ivy bridge cpu's are known to be much hotter than their predecessors. Intel in their infinite wisdom cheaped out and used poor quality thermal paste between the heat spreader and the cores. Other chips used solder. Using the same cooler here and get similair load temps at 4.5ghz when testing with p95.

No probs. Your unlikely to see temps as high as that in game. Not sure how demanding flight sim x is on a cpu. But i play a lot of bf3, and it gives all 4 cores a good little workout. Temps at 4.5ghz in it max in the high 50's.

- You can run OCCT, HW monitor, RealTemp to see what the max CPU temps are after a long session of FSX.

- You can also downclock to 4.5, 4.4, if you feel it's still too hot. The performance drop would be unnoticeable, but the temps would go down to, I'd say, around 70C. Should be trivial to check (MSI afterburner for frame rates).

- You can also double check cooler fan speed to make sure it's going at the full RPM when stressed. But if setter says the temps are what's expected, I don't think there is anything untowards in that regard.
