Please rate my £1,500 build

If your changing the gfx cooler why not just buy the ocuk value 480gtx?

I'm not 100% sure that I am changing the cooler on the 480. I was going to see how noisy it was and then change it if it's too much. I also have a 470 on another build that desperately needs a custom cooler, so I could use it for that.

Plus I always buy Gainward graphics cards. They've never let me down

What's the PC for? If it's gaming, I'd be tempted to drop to an i5 and spend even more ridiculous amounts on your graphics card.

Yeah mostly for gaming. I was thinking about getting another 480 at a later time and doing SLI. What was it you were thinking as an upgrade?

I was thinking 5970, although by this point SLI might be more cost-effective. There's another thread on i5 vs i7, but to summarise, you won't see any performance increase with an i7- so you're better off with an i5, which leaves you more money for a better graphics solution. anandtech's benchmarks put the 5970 well above the 480 in performance terms.

Heres what i came up with, didnt include a soundcard, dropped to i5, diff case etc, dual 480's

how would an i5 hold up with 480 SLI? thats wot im thinking. he need to get a great overclocking i5 chip to stay ahead of the 480s? is this gambleing?

a 1055T @ 4ghz buckled with 2 480s!

its silly talk anyway, you just dont need two 480's, what the hell will he be playing? id spend £1k or so on a high end system, then upgrade in the next 6 to 12 months, nobody knows whats going to happen.

uhmm i dont follow you dane.
i mean you said theres no point on buying two 480s yet youd spend £1k on a high end system and upgrade in the next 6-12 months?
why not just get 2 480s now and not worry for another 2 years maybe 3?

thanks for that article stulid. this part caught my eye!

"It is only in individual cases such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or WiC: Soviet Assault that using a top-end CPU is indeed justifiable and necessary to enjoy a comfortable frame rate, but such games are rather rare."

"my opinion"
now as we all know the speed of the computer tech world is like lightening, so these individual cases with rare games could change in a blink of an eye. it only takes 1 significant addition to games by 1 developer and the rest will follow suit. this will open the floodgates and the requirments have shifted once again.

its up to ourselves to decide or predict wen this could happen because we dont have that famous Delorean to hop into.

Add: i went for i7 i think its sooner rather than later, although these games are "rare" at the moment, they are already in circulation:)

You are looking to spend £150 on RAM then I would change to the newly released Mushkin PC12800 6GB Ridgeback. Not in stock at OCUK yet but i'm sure it will be soon as it's such a highly regarded set of RAM. Same price as what you are looking at but infinitely a better product it seems.
Some info and a vid on it here.. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/memory/mushkin_pc12800_6gb_ridgeback_review/7
It should be especially useful to you if you are going for a large air cooler as it has clearance on all ram slots. (rare on good ram)
