Why, oh why, oh why doesn't Lucasarts cash in on this whole Pirates of the Carib hype and re-release Monkey Island 1 & 2. I khow it's very dated, but for entertainment, it's flawless.

How many reviews, and top ten game polls do we see citing this game as a classic!

C'mon Lucas, pull ya finger out, and cash in... we know you want too!!!!

I've been trying to get a copy from a certain auction website, but they are going for crazy money. I think the Bounty Pack they released a few years ago is trading hands for around £30-£50!!!!

:p

It's great, hilarious, and just one of the best adventure games out there. Sure it's dated, but really helped launch the point and click adventure games (granted it wasn't first, but definately one of the best).

Then, you'll probably be going to hell.

However, it's not too late. This was discussed a bit in this thread..

where I did indeed say this :

'If I had to literally cram one pc game down somebodys throat, entirely against their will, it'd be Monkey Island.'

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck would?

Dang, how did that end?

Anyway, it's difficult to answer as the amount of wood that woodchucks would chuck on a given day varies greatly with the seasons and with the metabolisms of any individual woodchuck.

Never have been tempted to try vichysoisse.

Is it actually good these days though?

I just can't see myself playing an ancient point and click game with 8 bit graphics (i think they were 8 wern't they? even lower?) when there are games like Fahrenheit out there.

If that's not the case, is there any demo i can download of it?

Never really known what all the hype is about.

It's great because it's so funny and witty, as well as being a great point and click game. In my opinion of course.

I believe it went something like this:

Guybrush Threepwood: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Woodchuck: A woodchuck could chuck no amount of wood since a woodchuck couldn't chuck wood.

Guybrush Threepwood: But if a woodchuck could chuck and would chuck some amount of wood, what amount of wood would a woodchuck chuck?

Woodchuck: Even if a woodchuck could chuck wood, and even if a woodchuck would chuck wood, should a woodchuck chuck wood?

Guybrush Threepwood: A woodchuck should chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, as long as a woodchuck would chuck wood.

Woodchuck: Oh, shut up!

Damn, might be time to whip them all out and play through again, total classics.

Just replayed these over the past weeks. Still just as good as when I first played them. I got a few more jokes aswell this time around. So well written.

On a somewhat related note, the first of the new episodic Sam & Max game is out in a couple of weeks & getting very good reviews - apparantly capturing the the style & humour of the original perfectly. Only about £6 an episode too.

My friend still has 1 + 2 on the amiga - though it tends to crash when you get off the first island of the 2nd game (and saves dont work  )

Was there a PC version?
Yes of both on floppy and CDROM.

Play it over ScummVM if you still have them. As soon as I get a pc at work i'm sticking the first two onto a usb stick and setting it up on me machine there.

It's aged incredibly well, the music, the visuals. You just smile when you see it and get taken down memory lane fast. Lets face it, the pointy+click genre didn't last too long on the pc platform so the MI series still stands out by a mile.

[While hanging over a pit of acid]
Guybrush: Wally?
Wally: Yeah?
Guybrush: Could you scratch my nose?
Wally: Yeah, right after you kiss my butt.

monkey island was the second game i ever completed on the amiga me & a m8 bitched about how far in the game one of us got day by day hehe was great ,think he one in the end not sure now.
