Please reccommend cheapish card to outperform xfire 5770's

As per title, looking for a cheapish single GPU that will outperform my current crossfire 5770's which have served well for a long time. I'd quite like to be running BF3 on high settings with a decent minimum fps.

See the rest of my specs below:

i5 Ivybridge
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB WIFI
8GB Ram

With a single GPU i'll be able to use the mobo feature which makes the processor do some of the graphics rendering so that should give me a slight boost also.

Thanks

I don't know what resolution you are running at, but I run an i5 with crossfire 5770's on high settings at 1080 and get 60-80+fps on all the maps on bf3 even oman.

If I were looking at a cheap upgrade, I would have a think about a 2gb 7850 and possibly add another in crossfire later on if you wanted more. I don't think you will get many more frames top end on a single card without a slight o/c, but it will probably give you better minimum fps.

I went from CF5770s to a single 7950 and the performance jump in BF3 was huge. Could play ultra settings just fine. Whether you consider one of them jump is another question...

+1 for the 7850 2GB

Or this 7870 for £200 its a limited edition 7870 with a Tahiti core, performance is as near as a 7950 it makes little difference.
it says 1280 cores, that's wrong, it actually has over 1500.

See here

Or this standard 7870 for £180

Yeah actually, either of those 7870's would be the best choice as the 7850 is too close in price atm. When the 7850 TF3 was £150 it was perhaps worth the saving. Now the cheapest 7850 2Gb is £156, but that has a reference style cooler with the next cheapest reference cards costing £170, so worth the extra for either of those cards.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I play games at 1680.

I don't think i'd wanna spend more than £200. I picked up the extra used 5770 for £50 and it's done great for ages. But, I play BF3 on medium as I prefer to have consistent high frames. I do like to make the occasional fraps movie also.

Looks like the 7850 / 7870 is a good choice

I went from 5770 XF to a 7850 2gb. There was a noticable diffrence in FSP increase. I upgraded from a i5 750 to a i5 3570k last week and now getting even more fps.

What 7950 did you get. I am looking to go from CF5770 vapour x to a single 7950.
Cheers.

You wont get a card that fits any definition of cheap to comfortably beat your 5770 CF.

That will make no difference whatsoever for gaming, especially with cards as powerful as the 5770CF and above.

I purchased the msi 7950, they had bad press with the bad batch they have, but the one I've got is running perfect, under 99% gpu load it does go over 59c...such a great card

I came from a single 5850 and the difference was huge
