Hi

am looking to get a wired modem router which I can use with two pc's; one for online gaming and general browsing and te other for downloading. I have been unlucky with routers in past with a netgear dying in less than a week and a Dynamode doa. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to networking and would prefer to have a modem router without a firewall (or be able to switch off) and just mange things through XP.

at moment have a Dlink in mind.

D-Link's are great :D Had good experience with them. Currently using a DI-624 which i picked up second hand at a very well known auction site. This is the wireless version (NOT ADSL) and when I bought it, did not need the wireless bit. But after moving back home, its come in very handy. Everyone with a PC in the house and friends who come over with their WiFi equipped laptops can share files/net/games/etc - wireless & wired (router's got 4 ports +1 WAN)

As for the in-built firewall its never given me any access problems even with online games. Don't know if you can really turn it off or just provide it with exceptions. For this the Manufacture will provide you with support or even the goodfellas here ;)

Recommend: D-Link DSL-G624M for about £80 also has a ADSL modem built-in

Er, you want two routers?

The suggestions you're going to get are going to vary depending on whether it's ADSL or cable you're looking to connect to it as well...
