I have a few domains all over the place, and I have recently decided that it is beneficial to transfer them all over to one host so I can keep a tabs on their expiries and status far more easily. I then plan to update the nameservers on each domain to the web hosting companys' nameservers, so they function as they do now.

Can someone please recommend me a really good domain hoster? I'd like free transfers to and from, and the ability to edit the dns entries for the domain.

Secondly, does it make a difference if this domain host are not a nominet member? I'd prefer it if they are; it just feels like it should be more "robust" than a reseller, and also I can imagine that any dns alteration with a nominet member will propagate through the internet faster than a reseller further down. I'd be keen to hear people's experiences of whether this is the case. I guess the same applies for .com domains.

Many thanks for any recommendations

The ones I have looked at:

GoDaddy - slightly concerned that they're in the US.
register1 - unnerving transfer to an external website when you want to update the domain settings
123-reg - the control panel was a maze, but i used it a number of years ago.

Can anyone recommend others?

I always told people to avoid 1&1.
However just recently I've started dealing with them with regards .eu domains (as 123-reg are not official .eu resellers) and they have actually been excellent.
So if they can cope with .eu domains I'm sure they will be fine with other extensions too.

I use streamline - probably the only company I have not experienced a problem with. Every response to a support ticket is within 24 hours and when you reply they reply within a few hours when you send it at office hours.

Add that to 100% up time for me so far and such ease of use managing my domains, makes them a good company.

I found registering domains a bit pricey by a few pound and their hosting packages are also a few quid more. However, you get everything you need and no problems, so for the sake of a few quid its worth it.
