Hi all.
Can you please recommend me a good, not so expensive printer?
It’s for printing photographs up to A4 and general use.

Thanks.

Not too expensive to run. Similar offerings from hp are more expensive, I have the IP5200R, and its excellent, its pretty much the same head as the 4200, but with wifi and ethernet as well as pictbridge (not sure if the 4200 has it). The print quality is excellent, and ink wastage minimal. Just don't use it for printing text as it uses colour to produce black text, and not black ink.

OT TRiP, did your 4200 come with a USB cable?

hp sc1315 laser printer in one,i do photography and the quality of the pics is canny good.I just found Teaco do the black cartridges for like £3.97- which is superb considering i was paying £25.00.The colour cartridge is £25.00 or so, but is worth it , cause they last a while and i print quite a bit out.

I'd recommend the canons as well, much lower running costs than some other printers. I have the Pixima ip8500 which takes 8 individual cartridges, so only need to replace the colour that has run out, but it does cost much more to buy in the first place, but the print outs on canon Photo Paper Pro are superb.

Similar boat to Zheka,
Does anyone know if the 4200 prints borderless on A4 photos? And is there a similar model/price with a seperate black ink as im likely to be printing text a fair bit too?

As the 4200 is the upgraded version of the 4000 (of which I have one), I would imagine that it also does borderless and has a separate black for text as the 4000 has.

Epson R220 is what I use :)

Yup, R200 here and I pay £10 for a set of 7 inks (extra black) from ink emprium which I use to print photos up to A4 and they are very good and perfectly fine on epson premium glossy paper. The printer is like £45 or so now and it can also print directly onto printable discs.

Fairly fast printing too.

You only need to replace the colours that have run out and the printer will continue printing right til a colour is out then pause and wait for you to refill it. It is also borderless.

r220 here. It is my first photo printer and hence I have nothing to compare it to but I was gobsmacked when I saw how good the prints are.

mrk - that supplier looks good, are the cartridges printrite like the pictures? If so I will order a couple of sets as they are cheaper than enywhere else I have seen.

When I order sometimes they come as printrite other times as ritek. I also use UKDVDR which usually send me ritek. Good inks though.

thanks for the reply. I just checked out that dvdr place and they offer a full set plus extra black for 5.49  That seems too cheap to be good. I haven't heard of ritek before, have you ever had any problems using cheap inks? - some people post horror stories.

edit: though dvdr place charges postage whereas ink emp don't so they are about the same price.
