Please recommend me an ISP with no 12-month contract.

I'm thinking of switching from the 20mb sky broadband and satellite package I have since we don't really watch sky much. The new ISP needs to be a non-12 month contract: Either monthly bills or at most a 6 month contract. I download a fair bit - household total is probably about 40gb/month, and good speed and value would be nice. :) Any suggestions for a decent ISP that fits the bill?

Why not keep the broadband package?

I'm not sure if o2/be has a contract term, but I'd imagine they do, failing that, unless your exchange is WBC enabled, you'll be dropping down to an "upto 8mbit" service.

If that's not a problem, then I'd recommend an enta reseller, such as adsl24.co.uk.

It's more my housemates who don't really want to keep the sky package, as it's about £31/month and we really don't watch sky much, and would be happy with the digibox we have.

Sorry, not sure what WBC refers to... seem to remember vaguely from checking a few years ago that where we are (Oxford - Headington) probably isn't....

Enta reseller?

Sorry for the questions!

You should be able to keep the sky broadband without the sky package, I'm sure someone will come along ond confirm or discredit that as due.

WBC is BT's 24mbit adsl2+, using the same technology as sky/o2/be use to offer you 20mbit at the moment. Your exchange is due to be enabled in March, next year.

You can get o2 or be*, o2 costing around £17/m iirc for upto 16mbit.

I'd ignore the enta comment, as you could stay with sky, or goto o2 and get much higher speeds for less money.

But just to clarify, Entanet are an ISP, who only sell their products via resellers, such as adsl24.

The simple truth is, you can stay with sky (Probably without your TV package), or goto o2 or be* and keep your "faster" connection, which will probably cost you less.

Or you could move to a "Regular" ISP, and pay £20+ for upto 8mbit.

Hmm, O2 16mb looks like the best bet then (no connection charge, £15/mth for up to 16mb) - do they offer true unlimited use or have a fair useage policy? Can anyone suggest any other good alternatives?

o2 have a 12 month contract - Be only a 3 month. Be is your best choice if that's an issue :)

Staying with just the Sky broadband would probably be better though.

Bit late unfortunately - BT landline has just been reconnected and as it's a differentnumber Sky need to start a new 12mth contract to reconnect, with £25connection charge. So looking like the choice is either

Be Value upto 24mb £18/mth + £24 connection, 3 month contract

Be Unlimited upto 8mb £8 til end '08 then £14/mth + £24 connection, 3 month contract

o2 standard upto 8mb £12.50/month (non-o2 mobile customer), 12month contract, no connection charge

o2 premium upto 16mb £15/month (non-o2 mobile), 12 month contract, no connection charge.

O2 premium looks like the best of the lot..

Doesn't Be Value have a 12 month contract? Could've sworn it did...

If you go o2, get the friends and family discount on here (see the large "moving from be to o2" thread) as you can get o2 premium for £7.50/month.

If you know someone on Be they can refer you and the connection charge is dropped.

Be value is 8Mb and 12month contract. Unlimited and Pro are rolling 3 months.
