PLEASE REMEMBER: YOU CANNOT TALK ABOUT COMPETITORS!

I wonder if it's because " THE RAINFOREST " has a new digital download service and because of that, the mods cried and clamped down. But then clamp down on steam and origin aswell then oh and Impulse, Gamersgate...

heh

I would say that mentioning games retailers is a good thing, seeing as overclocking and performance hardware is your business, and PC gaming being a core reason why people buy the products from OcUK. I'd look at discussion around where to buy new games being beneficial to you, from the perspective of people upgrading rigs etc.

Just a thought. If it were me, I wouldn't want to stifle discussion and hype that leads to purchases of performance hardware. Especially not for the sake of the thin sliver of profit you might get from stocking a few titles at (most likely considering the numbers you'll probably stock/sell) uncompetitive prices.

This community knows all of the competitors anyway, making people use pseudonyms isn't going to change that. :)

OcUK can sometimes come across as very harsh!!

Very petty at times, more like.

Banning competitors when you have f-all games really isn't on, oh wow Warcrap games taking up over half of all the products you have on the store anyway, with Modern Warfare 1 & 2 and Rift, 3 games that if you wanted to buy, you would have already, and leaves you with what? Witcher 2 and Crysis 2? Which anyone with an ounce of sense could google to get a better price on both of.

Seriously, this is really stupid, and you should feel stupid for trying to enforce it. Nearly as petty as if your signature is 0.01kb over the allowed file size, it gets removed

You're going to have to give us some idea as to what a competitor is then in this case. Games are a core business of Steam, Direct2Drive, Origin, Green Man Gaming, GoG.com, Impulse and whatever other digital distributors there are out there, does this mean we can no longer talk about them?

The rule as outlined in the FAQ section are:

Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

If I remember correctly a competitor was deemed to be anyone who's core business was the same or overlapped with that of Overclockers UK (which is why we can mention places like Amazon) so if Overclockers were to choose to see gaming as part of it's core business then talking about the aforementioned digital distributors would be in breach of the rules.

Absolute clarity will be required as to how a competitor is defined with examples of what is considered to be a competitor and what is not.

I never whine or complain about OCUK rules because, well, it's their *darn* forum, but this is just pathetic imo.
ive always though the no competitor rule insults our inteligence tbh..
everyone knows who the competitors are ,we choose to shop at ocuk and be so active on the forum because we want to buy from you...
if we didnt we would be on one of your competitors forums instead making us pretend all these shops everyone knows about anyway dont exist is just childish

i remember ages ago i linked to a hardware review on a very popular review site and it just happened to have a banner advert for a competitor so a mod edited my post and deleted the link.....

maybe ocuk have struck some deals with some devs/publishers and will be increasing their games catalogue with some amazingly cheap games.

or........................................................................

maybe its just another rule for the sake of it.

funny how no one from ocuk has come in to give any more clarification

ok this is ludicrous and I warn you OCuk u risk alienating what is a very active gaming community as part of your forums. I rarely hang out in the other forum sections but I will tell you this I buy ALL my hardware from OCuk.

Only 3 weeks ago I bought a new video card. Yeah i look around at other places but the service I get from OCuk keeps me coming back. Further more it gives me this community that I have been part of for some time and I come here to chat about games and love the threads about deals etc. Infact you should be promoting the fact that people are buying games as hey whats the odds they will upgrade hardware - DOH ! you forgot about that bit didn't you.

You sell no Games and your prices on the few you do would never ever tempt me to buy one from you. Hardware is a no brainer your my first choice.

Stick to what your good at and what we love you for HARDWARE. Stop this nonsense that because someone in this forum section might post a deal Amazon, Steam, Game, Steam, D2D etc etc have on a game would impact on your business is small minded in the extreme.

So stop this nonsense now before it gets out of hand and does you more harm than any good you foolishly expect this to gain you. !

Posting this today is really making me question OCuks credibility.

Waits for MOD

Mod enters - If you don't like it LEAVE, these rules are enforced for a reason GTFO

Like that? :p

So this is a track back on the last change in which we could name them but not link?

Does steam count as a competitor?

Are we allowed the steam/gog/ea store deals threads any more?

how about games which are only available on certain services like the exclusive content that ea will release on origin?

Also does this mean we'll finally be seeing ocuk sell games at "competitive" prices (like the hardware side of the store) then if others are deemed competitors otherwise it seems a bit of a misnomer.
