Please remind me why Windows 7 is good..

Early betas however... They showed promise, but when it boiled down to the released crud we ended up with, its just another O/S that people are raving o nabotu to justify buying it when it no better than XP ... again!

You must be having a bubblebath if you think Windows 7 is no better than XP ;)

Might not be better for you but for the vast majority of people it is a step in the right direction.

+agree with OP, couldnt find a review which actually stated benefits that i would use between vista and win7. I was still on winxp and working/supporting ms products felt the need to upgrade for the sake of my job!

Dont want to be the 50 year old man who in 20years time is still using winxp because "it still does everything i need!"

Yes, ok, thats not quite how I mean it, but I am still failing to see why people are raving on about Win7 so much?

Can anyone actually give a list as to why Windows 7 is any better than Vista or XP?

I do expect a number of thigns that are improvements, of course I do, but do those thigns make the O/S any better? Any better for whom? and why?

IMO Win7 is nothing more than tarted up Vista!

It seems that all they have done, is move around the configuuration settings so you have to go looking for them again, to make you think you have a new O/S but when you dig down deep... Its vista with a re-spray nothing more.

To be quite honest this is how I and many others XP owners viewd Win Vista when it was first released. It was a tarted up version of XP with practically all the same options rebranded.

Why do you think so many buisness's and home user's essentialy told microsoft to take a hike when they tried convincing everyone that vista was some new supper dupper OS.

Bottom line for the OP and others is that if you are happy with your current OS and it does everything you want it to do then there isnt any need to upgrade.

It's good because it's a retail version OS available for £45 pre order and anywhere from £50-£70 now.

I find it more secure for users who aren't as up on tech as most of OcUK. I'd have phone calls every week from XP users saying something has broke, Since the majority of them have had Vista or W7 installed I haven't had one phone call.

I find the desktop being drawn by the graphics card also a godsend, I hated the lag that you would get in XP when moving windows around.

Windows 7 is just a refined version of Vista really, just feels a lot more snappy on older machines. Maybe I'm just a fan boy but I preferred Vista & W7 over XP. There is a lot of improvements from XP - W7 but not so much Vista - W7

But all that is subjective really, I think in the end Tarnblade hits it on the head with his last sentence.

its so much more

10 Ways Vista is more annoying with Windows 7 available

I could say 10 things about why Win7 is more annoying then Vista or XP,my point is simple its really down to the user to decide whats annoying or not.

I use Linux,Vista,Win7 and find them all very good but not perfect, each has annoying feature or more I could point too,end of the day no OS is perfect.

I have not seen any form of lag what-so-ever on XP?

I have used 64 Bit O/S since I first tried it, and XP64 I went to almost straight away... I tried a pre-release of it, but I had to stick with XP32 because of my Modem & Printer, but I got a Router and a new printer just to move to XP64 and I have never bothered with 32Bit since.

I do have a 32 Bit of Vista and now of Win7 but thats only because I wan to know the differences so I got them, but they are on rarely used LAN PCs.

But to have a lag? - I have never seen it.

One thing I've noticed, which I quite like, is that when you have an unmaximised window open and drag it up near the top or the side of the desktop, it automatically maximises. Same if you drag a maximised window down via the top it automatically reduces.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with W7. Still haven't got used to the new taskbar, it doesn't seem as intuitive as it used to and working with more than a few windows can make it a little awkward to see whats what.

All in all though, I'm pretty happy with it.

Ah, great, I just had a play with that... Nice.

Another idea ripped from Linux, but hey, at least its getting there!

I have found all the vista 64 drivers work with Windows 7 64, no exceptions here.

Its a lot faster too.

its called windows snap and it works on the side as well so you can have two windows side by side... also windows wiggle if you shake the window it minimizes all others
