Hi all,

I am in the market for a 20" TFT monitor. I do not want to take part in the infamous panel lottery, so anything but Samsung will do :)

I am looking for no more than 8ms response time (so the Dell Ultrasharp is out of the question). It must look good, have good colour replication. Price is not that much of an issue.

You don't need to limit it to monitors here on OCUK (I notice the range here is quite limited).

Thanks,

The widescreen Dell 2007WFP is marketed at 16ms because that's what the black-to-black time is, which is the true response time but nearly every other brand only quotes their Grey-to-grey response time, the Dell's is 8ms.

The Dell uses a superior S-IPS panel which unlike TN panels has great viewing angles, better colour reproduction and it has loads of ports, have a look at other panels the same price but make sure they're not TN. :)

OH, I never realised this. So are you saying that most other panels have a 16ms b-to-b response time too?

How will this Dell monitor fair for gaming and movies?

EDIT: Which part of Leeds? I am from Aireborough :)

I'm close to Wetherby so not far away actually, I ordered a Dell 2007WFP yesterday so I'll hopefully be able to give you a more in-depth review shortly but I know many people are happy with this monitor, just need to get some more opinions in here.

Others that are rated say 5ms maybe 12ms response time black-to-black which is obviously better but for films it'll still look great, games I cannot vouch for as that's not my priority but I've heard it fairs well.

But how do these two 1600x1200 compare:

Dell 2007WFP
Viewsonic VP2030b

If you had to buy one which one would you get?
If you could choose one as a present which one would you choose?

Primary Use:

a. For Photoshop?
b. General (MS) Office tasks

Secondary Use:

Viewing DVDs - one viewer angles not so important
Playing the odd game, something like Max Payne, Rome etc

Does Baddass' TFT Central seem to be short of choice at the moment?

does it? do you mean for 4:3 aspect 20" models? If so then, yes, that's because there aren't really that many good ones out there tbh

Yes, I believe I need a 4:3 (but I'm always tempted to the Dell 20" WS) those extra 150 vertical pixels should make a lot of difference in PhotoShop, shouldn't they?

Yes on your TFT Central I chose 20" for photo work and if I'm correct didn't come up with anything?

I do seem to remember some time ago it steered me towards the ViewSonic, for my post above which would you choose? Or would you go for the Dell 20" WS?
thanx everyone

for photo work, really strict colour enthusiast displays are not really that common in the more popular range. you could look at models from Eizo or Lacie perhaps, but tend to be expensive...i didnt bother including these on the selector since it's more for the more popular general range, might add them in tho in the future :) The Dell is about as good a bet as any in the 20" range, good colour accuracy, S-IPS panel usually...worth checking out

The dell 2007 wfp has gone from £235 to £240 to £250 on here in 24 hours
because of this i have just decided not to buy.
Waiting for it to be £235 again :D
