Not built a PC for a few years so need some advice please especially on cpu mobo combos. My Nan is after an upgrade from a celeron (PC too slow).
Basic usage browsing, emails, ms office. No gaming etc
Main thing is a faster processor and I'll be putting a ssd in no hdd.

Cheers

Not sure what you have & don't, but made a full build anyway. A bit overkill perhaps, you could also go with a Pentium G3258 and save some money but this will be solid for longer.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £265.05
(includes shipping: £11.10)

The AMD chips have better onboard graphics Intel perform better so as NAN wont be doing anything heavy like gaming the Pentium is a good choice. If you want the to push the boat out then the i-3 is great at that price.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £180.83
(includes shipping: £9.90)

quad core so being the lower one should still be faster than a celeron and onboard graphics should be plenty which is why i chose the itx board and case, though if a optical is required then an ssd like you say you have would be more suited for the setup.

or you could just buy her a nuc/brix or something along those lines, maybe even those revo console size computers.

Thanks to all who replied. I went with the i3 4170, asus h81-m mobo, 8gb ram, Samsung 850 ssd. Should be a nice upgrade for her. Came to about £250 with a new case, psu and dvd drive.
