I've just bought the new SilverStone RVZ02 ITX case, and will be building a gaming system with my current 280X Vapor-X (to be upgraded shortly to a R9 390 or GTX 970).

Thing is - I can't decide on processor. I'd like the best value-for-money Intel offering that's not going to cause a bottleneck for gaming. Bear in mind this has to go in an ITX motherboard, and I shan't be overclocking as the system is only for gaming PLUS I can't get a huge CPU cooler in this case anyway.

I was thinking about either the i5-4460 or i5-4590 (for around the £150 mark) but am now wondering if I should go for a Skylake i5-6500..?

Whad'yall think?

I expect the majority of people will say to go Skylake, however I would go Haswell/Broadwell, on the basis that Skylake is a very small jump in pure CPU performance, and quite a step backwards in terms of integrated GPU.

I expect you'll now tell me that you won't use the iGPU. Fair enough - but in the event of graphics card problems and/or RMA, you are going to need to rely on the Intel solution, and personally I'd rather have something solid like the Haswell/Broadwell iGPU to back me up.

Just my $0.02.

Yes, as per my OP I will be using a 280X.

I just wanna work out the best value CPU that won't cause me a GPU bottleneck for a few years.
