please spec me a modem / router.

been trawling through stats for ages now but not able to decide.

i want an adsl wireless modem/router with stateful packet inspection, wpa2, a good gui which will allow me to do all the usual stuff like mac address filtering, virtual servers (or opening ports to put it plainly) and gigabit ethernet for my wired lan.

for the wireless machines on my network - i use 802.11g (54mbps) at the moment but i would not mind having one that was compatible with faster g standards or even draftN (as long as it is backwards compatible) cos i might get myself a card to upgrade my machines wireless speed in future.

would appreciate some help if there is anybody feeling helpful out there

Hmm that's an extensive list of features, have you looked at Cisco stuff?

It won't be cheap but should give you all the features you want and more.

I wouldn't call it an extensive list. No need to be wasting money on Cisco products

i ended up buying this

i have a question though. i don't think this contains a built in modem like my old 3com did. i am on an adsl connection not cable.

do i need a modem for this? does it have one? do you even need a modem for an adsl router connection?

the reason you are confused is cos you are amazed that i could be so stupid. but i was so stupid!!

i've always had modem / routers before and they just worked and i never read up on this particular field.
