This is harder than I thought.

My current phone, a Samsung D500 keeps crashing (the display goes a funny colour and goes upside down ! - I think it needs replacing).

I only want the following features though;

Allows phone calls (duh)
Test Messaging
A good hands free system (for use in car)
MP3 ringtones / MP3 text tones
Some form of PC communication, WiFi / Bluetooth to pass data to and from phone.

Thats it ! - I don't want a video camera, games, MP3 player, built in Camera / TV / DVD player / Microwave oven... I just want a phone :D !

I am also hoping that this brings the price down a lot too.

Is there such a phone ?

new?

if not new, then i'd recommended the d600! although never used myself, a lot of my mates went from the d500 to the d600 and loved it at the time.

you probably wont get a phone with wifi without leaving the unnecessary gadgets out, so you'll prob have to go bluetooth..

I got a K610i in Urban silver a while back on 3. Contract is for 500 mins & 100 Texts a month for 20 quid & the phone was free.
2 meg camera, built in hands free,Built in MP3 & comes with PC lead & disc & is a very simple phone to use & run.
Sony Ericsons user interface for me is the best.

New preferably, I usually buy 2nd hand phones, which usually come with their own issues.

It seems if you google for this kind of thing, they usually send you to the OAP / Mobility phone websites with big clunky phones !

Am I on my own wanting this sort of thing ? Is it an odd request to get a phone without the gadgets ? Id just rather buy "separates" - I have a nice digital camera, PDA, MP3 player etc.

Thanks, thats a nice phone.

Having spent (far too much) time searching for this, I think my best bet would be to go with a phone that has all my features, and ignore the rest.
as I don't think such a thing as my request has been made.

Annoyingly, if you go for a cheap phone like the Sony Ericsson K550i it only has polyphonic ringtones !

Ho Hum.

Why not go for something like a K750i? It is cheap now and still a good phone, unfortunately it is on T-Mobile so will likely be locked and there are sometimes problems with the joystick but I'd have another one happily enough. :)

According to the blurb, that only has polyphonic ring tones too.

I'm surprised at that though, I thought it did MP3.

Where are you getting that from? I'm looking under the Multimedia section of the specifications and it says "MP3 Ringtones", I certainly used MP3s as ringtones for my W800i which is basically the same phone, I can't remember back to when my K750i was working but I think it would be the same, unfortunately I've now sold both so I can't even test.

I do however still have the manual for the K750i and it says that you can use MP3s as ringtones with the only caveat being that you cannot use voice answering for obvious reasons. :)

//edit, ah yes I see on the main screen it lists polyphonic ringtones only but as above the multimedia section is correct, it does support MP3s + polyphonics.

Some of the cheaper Nokia and Motorola phones would probably do you. You might be best just to go into a shop like the Carphonewarehouse and pick one there.

Yep, that's where I got it from, the features link.

You wouldn't happen to know if you can select an MP3 for SMS tones on the K750i do you ?
My current phone doesn't, and it is something I really want on my next phone.
