I am thinking of building a pc for keeping my photos and video on (no editing) and to go on the internet. I have a screen, keyboard, mouse.

I would like to have windows xp as the OS.

I will be using internet wirelessly via usb cable.

I would like a card reader so that I can simply put the card from my camera into the computer and transfer the data that way.

I would like a dvd-rw so that I can burn data onto DVD disks.

my budget is total maximum of £300 as I do not want to be spending that much on it.

many thanks
Murray

sorry I didn't make it clear that I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse, with that money can it be spent to make the system better?

thanks for the spec anyways

Better performer (& case)

Want more ram for vista (thats ofc if you ever will put it on there). Also considering he wants to store video, 80gb is a bit small. Clock for clock in general purpose the A64 will be less than 1% faster than the sempron at the same clock speed.

Due to more ram and better HDD my setup would be decantly faster, along with the HDD being quieter.

Agree... but stretch-out/invest/etc in a better case than that!

I've just thought, couldn't I put an ad in the WTD part of the members market for a full system PC. that way I would get it for cheaper. it's just I need as cheap PC as I can find because I need to save £800 for a camera, £400 for holiday, so I don't really have a lot of money. Or am I not allowed to post two posts about the same thing but in different places?

many thanks for the specs

Murray

I see no reason why you cant have a system specced up and then offer money for a 2nd hand. That way you can compare both options.

I have been offered this:

AMD XP1700 (thoroughbread core - the really good clocking one - unlocked multi)
Abit NF7-S
512mb Geil RAM (DDR400 stuff)
FX5200
case + dvd drive, cdr drive, 20Gb harddrive etc

£100inc ?

any good?
if it is i could buy another HDD with the rest of the money.

many thanks
Murray

Slower, noiser, less ram, worse GFX, only CD writing ability, not Vista compatable (ever without upgrading everything), obsolete as far as upgrades go. but then again its cheaper even with another £60 on a HDD. The sempron will heavily outperform that chip, both OC.

Is graphics really a big problem when only playing-back videos?

I think £100 for a PC (Buy a new HD) thats an good deal if you only want to use it as a storage system.
