Please Spec Me a Pen (gift for dad)

I'm on the lookout for a nice pen for my dad for his birthday. He typically only buys himself cheap multipacks of Tesco's own brand pens for doing crosswords and sudokus etc. I've been using rollerball gel pens only for years, so I don't really know about other popular pen types/styles. Basically looking for something that writes well on newspaper, printer paper etc, with a nice smooth flow, and non-tendency to leak! And given that it will be a gift, something reasonably nice looking. Willing to spend £50-100.

Any ideas?

I like the idea, but he'd have trouble seeing the print I think.

always been a bit partial to those 'wood' pens. never bought one mind you as i lose pens faster than i'm losing my hair! always thought they looked like an ideal gift.

google has loads but a taster below.

+1 for this, or a nice ballpoint.
Might find rollerball and gel don’t do well on thin newspaper.
These are nice, from well respected brands:

I'd personally recommend Cross at that price point.

My wife bought me a nice ballpoint pen by Cross a few years ago. It is a very nice pen, writes lovely and has a lifetime guarantee for the pen (obviously the ink won't last a lifetime lol).

I believe it cost under £100 and is called a Cross century ii.

I second Cross pens - only problem I have found is you really do need to buy Cross refills which are quite expensive.- I have tried the Chinese ones and for some reason they don't put much ink in them.
The wife's best pen is a Cross.
I use Zebra Expandz pens - closed up they just drop into your coat pocket.

Thanks guys. I'll check those out, and any others I forgot to quote!

Re: spending that money on a pen, as already said, it's a gift for my father. It's his 80th birthday.
