Firstly I have been completely out of the loop for about 3-4 years.
My current 939 based system is on its way out, windows locks up (tried a fresh install) and then it takes about 4-5 goes to get it to load again and it appears the motherboard may be dying as it is giving errors in trying to find the drives which appear to be fine.
The wife has 'allowed' me £500 to spend on a new motherboard, gfx card (current is AGP so can't use it), memory and cpu... and likely need to include Win7 in that price, I don't really need a new PSU as mine appears to be fine but its only 600W.
I use the computer for 3D work, video/audio editing, photoshop, and the wife uses it to watch movies and tv, and waste time on facebook.
I might be willing to 'accidentally' spend more and suffer the ear bashing but not much as I don't want a divorce
I was originally looking at this:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470 OC 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with MAFIA 2 £199.99
AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £159.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) £82.99
Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) x2 £131.98
Total: £666.10
but ended up with this due to the £500 limit:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 970 Black Edition "140W Edition" 3.50GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £138.64
Palit GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with HAWX2 PC-Game £119.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) £82.99
Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Dual Channel (OCZ3G1333LV4GK) £64.99
Total : £497.77
Any thoughts? apart from growing some and telling the wife that £500 is not enough
