Ok so been running since Christmas. Not doing massive distance yet. I'm up to about 4km. Currently weighing in at 16 stones exactly, large build, short legs. Not really designed for running. But i'm enjoying it. My current trainers are falling apart, so thought id replace with something more suited to running.

I do 90% on road running, and started a bit of off road. Laid track, so packed stones. Which in my knackered trainers hurt when landing on pointed up stones.

Budget, ideally less than £60. Though could go over that if the majority vote goes that way.

So i'm after a running trainer, mainly for road use, something suited to the heavier bloke. Absorb some of the impact off my knee's.

Suggestions? I've been looking at Merrells so far and a pair of Scarpa Ignite?

Go to a decent specialist running shop (Sportlink just outside Norwich get good reviews) and get them to watch you run. They will recommend a pair of shoes that will compensate for any issues you have in your gait and your knees will thank you a lot.

The brand, colour and such like don't matter and the best shoe is the one that best matches your running style. Any suggestions anyone here can give you will be based on nothing and may lead to injury.

Now that is good advice! So just got to run in front of some people.... I tend to run in the dark! So first challenge.

Many thanks for the help. I'll check out Sportlink

If Sportlink are good then go with them but most of the big running chains (Sweatshop, Runners Need etc) will also offer gait analysis and be able to give you a choice of trainers within your budget. It's quite a personal thing though so it's definitely best to try and find the trainers that fit for you rather than buying a particular brand or just because you like the look of them as Asprilla says.

Yeah I saw the Lunarglide as well. They were suggested as another good one for larger weighted gents.

Heading over to sportlink this weekend. Just across the road from the Vets I use so very handy!
