I know people get bored of these threads so I apologise in advance.

I have been reading a lot of reviews but always get put off after reading the pros and cons summary. There is always something in the cons that puts me off. I thought it would be better getting a recommendation from somebody on here.

I am after a 28 - 30" monitor. It will be used for watching movies, gaming and web browsing. I am looking to pay up to about £750.

Depends how much gaming you are doing, if a fair amount then go for Asus PB278Q otherwise go for Dell U2713HM for all round useage. Both are great monitors and to be honest the Dell will save you a fair bit more cash which you can put towards a holiday or a great gpu for the 2560x1440 resolution they provide.:)

Just a warning with the dell, a large amount of them have really bad backlight bleed. I tried two of them before giving up and asking for a refund. Will probably go for the Asus or viewsonic instead.

I was going to upgrade my budget and got for the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30". Then I read 30" monitors are no good for games and movies due to wide gamut. Is this true?

Does anybody have a Dell UltraSharp U3014 and use of for gaming and watching films?

It depends how you like your colours to look. The wide colour gamut causes intense oversaturation when you're viewing content designed with sRGB in mind (most games and films). Some people like this and others loathe. To get a feel for how this will affect the colours in games and films I'd recommend reading my review of the U2713H. The colour performance of the U3014 is very similar and the characteristic 'overdrive trailing' mentioned in that review also applies. Not everyone finds any of this problematic for gaming and some people really like the gaming experience - it's up to you.
