On a strict budget here and require the following for mainly internet and ms office use. £650+delivery is the budget.

Mobo (Not Asus - too many bad experiences)
GFX card
HDD
DVD Writer
Memory (1Gb will suffice)
Min 17" TFT
CPU + HSF
Case with good PSU and front USB2.0 ports if possible.
Keyboard + optical mouse (matching preferably)

This will be all at stock speeds so no overclocking required. Reliability is the most important factor.

Any thoughts welcomed.
:)

Here is something that may be suitable, I don't know anything about the motherboard but you don't want Asus which I would normally recommend. You have onboard graphics since no mention is made of games. All other parts should be fairly obvious but if you want any clarification just ask.

Thanks for the spec. Sorry forgot to mention, a spec for a little light gaming use would be preferable so would prefer a separate GFX card if that is possible within the budget. Spec looks good though. :)

Ok slightly revised, I've had to go with a slower CPU and smaller hard drive but still easily capable for what is basically an office machine. The inbuilt graphics card would have allowed some gaming but obviously the X800GTO is far better :)

It is cheap and it is based on the Nforce4 chipset so I don't see too much point in changing it, if you want absolute stability you are unlikely to be overclocking and you do have a couple of spare PCI slots anyway for add-in cards. If someone else knows of any problems with the board then changing it is worthwhile otherwise at that sort of price it is usually much of a muchness :)

Looks fine to me but then I would say that ;) Only change I'd make is to go for the NEC 4551 which is in the Lightscribe section of the optical drives and is a little bit newer. I'm sure your dad will be pretty happy with that :)
