I am going to built a new pc for my mother for xmas. My dad and I agree to pay £250 half each to spend up to a maximum £500 for my mum new pc for her xmas.

I want the best medium pc spec for my mum with a quad core and no overclocking with no gaming either. She only use her pc for watching you tubes, video chat with her friends, family tree online, music and photos and dvd on pc. Nothing else more.

Also, I don't need to buy any air or water cooling or fans because I got loads of spare in my cupboard such as mega air cooler and H50 water cooling. Also, don't need HDD or SSD as I can fit my old 1TB HDD for my mum. Also don't need DDR3 triple or dual memory ram as I had ocz 6gb 1866mhz memory rams. The only parts I need is either cheaper Intel or AMD processor with cheaper gigabyte motherboard, silent 600W power supply and medium good graphic card (support windows 7 please) and a good medium size case. Motherboard must have SATA / II port connecters for HDD sata II and dvdrw sata II.

The tower case must be medium size (not large or extra large or too small)

I had choose few parts here and don't it look ok here:

Thanks, I will order it on Monday for delivered on Tuesday. These are excellent spec! Does the power supply is quiet noise as my corsair TX 750W is quite annoying noise and loud when overclock mine at 4.4Ghz. I was bit worry as my mum don't like a very noisey pc!

Having used the Corsair 400w in a friends pc I found this to very quiet and I believe this a newer / updated model.

I had the 750w TX in the past and found it noisy, I actually put a vent in the side of my case to help with air flow.

Interesting, about Corsair 750w tx is the worse ever noise I ever had. With a spare left over of £167.99 might getting a better super silent power supply but I had no idea which is the best one to meet my need for my overclock 4.4ghz with geforce gtx260 (will upgrade to gtx470 in later stage).

RJC's spec + £165 of flowers :) :)

Or more seriously - would she like a large monitor or something nice like that? My mum's eyes are getting on and she hates the small monitor she has. Has to have all the fonts and icons set to mahoosive so there's naff all on screen and every website you have to scroll sideways - so annoying. So I'll probably sort her out with a 24" monitor sometime so she can run like 800x600 with normal fonts and see things properly :) :)

If she only uses it to watch youtube and the likes the £500 is a crazy amount, get a system for way less that will perform just as well

Thanks RJC! :) I just add this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-051-IY&tool=3

I am sure my mum will be very happy with this beautiful new pc and a stunning monitor as she prefer a widescreen monitor ! So, a bargain £490 for her new pc plus monitor for xmas. Only £10 spare left!!

I forget to add one more important is her internet connection (need a pci wifi b or g wireless will be fine)

just gotta ask, why a quad core?

for the things you mentioned, an athlon II x2 250/260 (255 is too close to the 260s price to be considered) would more than suffice, and have 200-400mhz higher base clockspeed for £10-20 less. Never mind less power consumption and heat ;)

i see they've stopped stocking the cx400 though :(
