I'm looking for a game to play with me dad over LAN. We like puzzle games, we love the myst series of games, but those type of games seem few and far between. So we're thinking of an RPG we can play together over LAN, i've had a little experience with Lord Of the Rings Online and WoW, so I know the mechanics enough to teach him the basics, but we don't really want an online game with subscriptions, just something with maybe an ending to it where we can explore and co-operate together. I understand RPG's have few if any puzzles, so that's fine. Preferably we don't want a complex RPG, more something we can pick up pretty quick and explore and have some fun. It may be a tall order, but any suggestions from you kind folks would be appreciated.

My dads PC is the lowest common denominator, it has an older dual core processor and onboard graphics so really any games a few years old or more is what we're thinking. I'm thinking some kind of fantasy game, and have been considering Neverwinter Nights which I believe you can play co-op on LAN.

Any recommendations would be great :)

How about Second Life? I think that's free to play but there obviously isn't any combat onvolved.

Failing thathow about pretty much any game that works in multiplayer (e.g. Command and Conquer, etc,- ok that's not a MMORG but you get the idea). One of you hosts the game and the other connects (you will need to know your IP).

thanks for the suggestions, resident evil is not really his cup of tea I'm afraid, i've tried second life and although it was interesting, we really need something where there is some kind of an ending like with a traditional game. Command and Conquer is right up his street, but we've played civ iv to death (well he still plays it a lot), and although Command and Conquer is different to civ iv, they both fall in the strategy genre and I'm really looking for something a little different for a change, like an RPG.

I probably should have been more specific in my original post, unless anyone can think of an adventure game playable over LAN involving co-op puzzles (like myst online had), then I'm looking for a fantasy RPG to play over LAN that is a few years old so my dads PC can cope with it.

thanks again for all suggestions, Neverwinter nights does sound good, but I'm going with the free trial on Guild Wars for now (no monthly subscription either if we do purchase it), I know it's a mmorpg, but if it's not to my dads tastes then we can think again.
