Hi,

After watching Troy last night I realised how much I love these historical ancient civilization type of movies. Gladiator included. I was wondering if there are any other good ones out there that anyone can suggest? Someone mentioned '300', but it appears to be sci-fi, which I'm not really looking for.

Thanks! :)

Kingdom of Heaven is a cool film, quite underrated by a lot but I really enjoyed it.

If you liked Gladiator and Troy, I think you'll like 300 - it's good entertainment.

Kingdom of Heaven, as suggested above is also a good one.

There's Alexander, but that didn't quite float my boat - then again, I'm a bit of a history buff and I thought it was off.

The Last Samurai is a big battles kind of film and pretty good.

Hero (the Jet Li one) might also appeal.

I'm sure there's plenty more, though - I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what pops up.

JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS

Man I love that movie. (Not very historical, more mythological, but it's so fun!)

King Arthur (Roman)
Excalibur (Medieval)
Spartacus (Roman)
Ben Hur (Roman)
The 13th Warrior (Viking)
The Vikings (Viking)
El Cid (Medieval)

Am I the only person who thought The Last Samurai was a hilarious cheesefest (whilst enjoyable for the wrong reasons) where the Emperor of Japan sounded like Michael Jackson?

The BBC did some cool telly series about Rome in 2005 and the 70s. :)

Rome (the modern one) is awesome.

Beowulf is pretty good on the Imax at the moment! Saw it courtesy of seefilmfirst.com the other week....don't know how good it'd be on the normal screens though!
