Alright chaps
I'm old skool, I used to build PC's but haven't done for over 10 years now
So I'm going to get the guys at OC to do that for me.

This is to be used on a 52" TV at 1920x1080
Mostly for gaming, but also general internet and possibly photo editing too

Games-wise, I mostly MMO but also like the odd FPS or RTS

Here's teh spec:

Edition" 3.30GHz Quad Core DDR3 System
SW-127-MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM

Bronze' Power Supply
GX-042-HS HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ PLUS
Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive**

So I'm wondering if it will be up to the job, will work well on the TV, if there are any potential performance bottlenecks there, any areas that I've completely overkilled, any suggestions etc etc

muchas gracias :D

That's not a "proper" phenom CPU. It lacks the L3 cache which helps for gaming. The mobo is cheap and nasty too, no overclocking options if i remember right, not even to up the multiplier on Black Edition CPUs!

Intel rules the roost so to speak at the moment. Ideally you want an i5 setup, it would be much wiser to build yourself. If you are a lil rusty we are more than happy to help talk you through any problems come build day

a gaming PC without a dedicated graphics card is like a car without wheels - its not gonna work. if you can physically play any of the major modern games at lowest settings with that then i'd be very surprised

Isn't that a 6950 spec'd at the bottom of the list reaper? To be fair the spec sheet is a bit of a mess, no offence intended to the OP

Soemthing like the "Titan Triceratop" Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz would suit you better. I would throw in a Radeon 6870 or a GTX 570 at the very least.

See, thats why it was wise for me to post here! Cheers

My understanding of the comparisons between AMD and Intel processors is limited to err price only :\ In the olden days I could just compare Mhz, this no longer seems to be the case

That system comes in at about £750, so I don't want to spend any more than that (I've got to get it past the wifes radar!)

Do you think its feasible to build something similar, with the crap bits removed for that kind of money?

whoa, you guys are replying to quick for me now ;)
Yep its a cheap OC system with 8Gb Ram and a HD6950 chucked in there

Do you think the 6950 is overkill on a cheap system?

Definately! I'm sure we could save you enough money to get the misses some new shoes to keep her happy ;)

When you are ready to order start a new thread and the spec gurus will work their magic!

The site does daily as well as weekly offers. For example there was £10 off the i5 2500K today but it could have been RAM or even a solid state drive. The best guys on the forum for spec'ing always take these offers into account.

There is an excellent sticky here you can read to get you back upto speed on building a rig btw

so it is. i was looking at the bit that said "XX-050-XX No Graphics Card Upgrade" and i thought it meant that there wasnt any graphics card upgrade

comparing Mhz is like going up to two cars and comparing the size of the engine. you would think a 5L would be more powerful than a 4.5L, but its not always the case. i could go into what you need to compare, but its far easier to just look at anandetech's benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2
you'll find all the intel sandybridge processors to be top dog for price/performance

if your willing to build it yourself then you can get something WAY better than a prebuilt computer
