My petition:

Ban the sale of artificial grass as it's a plastic pollutant destroying wildlife

“Creatures can’t survive in the countryside because it is so full of chemicals and so they retreat into gardens,” Birds get absolutely nothing from artificial grass, they can’t dig for worms or anything like that. It's a plastic pollutant which will be around for generations.

concreting over grass and laying plastic turf will also increasing the risk of nationwide flooding.

That goes straight to a signatory page. Where's the bit about what we're signing up to? I'm sure it's as you've said in your post but wouldn't you normally see what you're agreeing to on the same page?

What about new builds with silly small gardens? Usually due to the height of the house a lot of the garden never gets sunlight so grass turns to moss/sludge. Decking/patio slabs isn't always suitable.

In an ideal world though, builders should build houses people actually want to live in and yes....ban plastic grass. That said, not sure you can get real grass which cuts itself and never suffers from weeds :p

I'm in two minds about it.

No way I could sign a petition with the line 'Creatures can’t survive in the countryside because it is so full of chemicals' to be honest sounds like it has been written by someone who has no idea what they are on about.

Emo grass. Cuts itself and smokes all the weed.

New builds often have lawns that don't take because the developer buries rubble under the grass instead of having a nice soil depth. If you can fix that, a lot of people wouldn't resort to buying fake grass.

It's easy to fix. Proper rotavation, management of waste in the first instance and then good site clearance. Takes time and money though.

This is the problem we had. Garden is too small and too overlooked so didn't see sun for 6 months. Grass died every year. Then we got infested with Leather Jackets, so gave up, dug it up, and laid artificial. Best thing we ever did.

The decline of wildlife is a problem, but all the time we build pokey little places with crap gardens, it's only going to get worse.
