I'm posting this to help anyone who has/or may experience a problem using plex on a capable Synology enclosure.
I recently became the proud owner of a DS712+. Given it's capability, and my quest for a solid solution to stream my films to my ios devices et al without having to re-encode them, I was eager to try Plex whcih transcodes on the fly.
On installing it from the DSM package centre, any attempts to access the plex media manager resulted in a 404 error.
In short it woudl appear the version that dsm downloads is not working. I resolved this by manually downloading the plex client for dsm from HERE. I then hit the install/update button in the package centre, selected my newly downloaded file and it busily went away and updated itself and I now have a fully working Plex service whcih is happily streaming to my ipad.
Overall quite impressed with Plex, having only previously used XBMC. May even move over to plex on my htpc at this rate.
Anyway, hope this helps someone.
Edit: anyone interested in my review of the DS712+ can read more HERE
