Hey all i wonder if someone could help me please ive got an issue with PLEX on my Android box. The Android box i have is running PLEX as a client on my H6400 48" Samsung TV downstairs and a canton DM55 soundbase as Audio. Now my PC is upstairs used as the server. Now the Android box can play anything up to 4K. Now when i play an 1080p Film in mkv format my pc has to transcode the file. Im not sure why it has to because the Android box can play 1080p files in MKV format. Doesn't the PLEX native player support Android MKV format. When i use MX player there is no transcoding. But cannot in anyway get rid of the subtitles ive been in MX player and disabled all Subs but all the films still show subs. Is there anyway around these issues i feel ive paid a PLEX pass. And this issue should not be Happening LOLOL. Sorry for the long rant any help be great thanks.

I just use Kodi (now available on the play store) as I found Plex to just be a massive ballache. It's a little harder to set up but once you get your head around it, it's great.

Your not kidding. This should not be happening this day and age. Should not have to transcode to an Android box on the home network my processor is an i5 4690. Even though its powerful enough PLEX should not be transcoding in anyway shape or form. My tv supports MKV and so does the Android box. But the native player for PLEX cannot for android its a joke to be honest ive searched the forums and tried alsorts LOLOL

If you've got a Plex Pass then ask on the Plex Pass forums. You'll find the tech folk from Plex hang around there and will be better placed to provide you with an answer.

So doesn't sound right. I personally have not had these issues. You seem quite annoyed by this. Your system is working though correct? So why so serious?

Plex vs Xbmc...no comparison. I run rasplex on a pi2. Perfect.

I see no need to use kodi unless your in to streaming stuff you ain't paid for..

A bold statement , kodi is only used by pirates, so plex users dont have torrents running on the same plex server box to download freebies?

You've probably downloaded a file compressed with the h265 coded and with hard coded subs.

What happens when you choose Direct Stream on the Android box?

.mkv is a container for the video and audio
ie mpeg-2 video dd5.1 audio
if your client box doesn't have the hardware codec capabilities then transcoding has to happen

when you created the mkv's did you not deselect subtiles or are they 'borrowed' mkv's?

This is the box

There not borrowed MKV's they play fine off HDD straight into the box no subs. There the h264 codec remuxed off a BluRay the problem only happens if i choose the experimental player and choose the MX player i get subs everything has been unchecked for subs. If i play the film direct to the Android app no subs at all. Its a strange one. I played a film today and the PLEX native player had to transcode the AVI LOL

If the issue doesn't happen when you bypass plex, then the issue is with your plex server set up.

It sounds like you have it set to always transcode, and to pull down subs from your site of choice.

Do you have options for Direct Play/Stream on the box?

I might just get a cheap enough HTPC just for a PLEX client and KODI on windows. Im not even sure if i like the PLEX Android app don't like the layout and interface its a lot better on the PLEX home theatre even tho they have replaced it for the media player you can still have that option and we have that in our bedroom with the Aeon nox skin and it looks awsome
