Plod camera van question

generally they will not go lower than the guidelines but by going higher they are losing money

Yet again I find myself pointing out that fines go direct to central government via the courts. The people operating the vans do not get a penny. The old scheme whereby certain speed fines paid half back to Force were stopped years ago.

Good luck, I myself doubt that they employ discretion. I attended a speed awareness course for 47 in a 40. It was a Sunday morning at 8am, perfect conditions, no other cars on the road and a 3 lane wide road, none of which made any difference.

The one that caught me had a driver sat in the front seat so I assume these are a 2 person crew.

Even today with tight budgets and thinly stretched police resources you will still sometimes get a bit of discretion with a manned car (marked or unmarked) pulling people over at the side of the road for speeding, but its much less likely with a mobile camera van parked up somewhere.

My NIP for 43 in a 40 (dual carriageway with armco barriers) suggests otherwise. Thanks South Yorkshire camera partnership...:(

Got a copy of that NIP? If you do, there's a lot of people who'd be very interested to see it. Plenty of people have said they've received similar NIPs, but so far nobody has been able to provide proof - many motoring solicitors insist that it simply never happens.

I've had that asked before when people don't believe. I don't have any proof unfortunately. I expect people to be dismissive as would I have been before it happened to me.

I really wish I'd kept the letter.

I went to the Staffordshire Police open day yesterday, interesting and informative.

They had a safety camera team there and I asked a few questions, the chap I spoke to said they rarely prosecuted for less than 5mph over the limit and said safety was their primary concern.
I queried this by asking why, given safety was the issue, they liked to position themselves just prior to the end of a given limit to catch people speeding up as they leave the limit rather than at the start to make sure the limit was observed, he just smiled and said he couldn't comment.

Make of that what you will!
