Hey guys,

Ive been away for the tech world for a short while and was hoping someone could kindly clarify a few questions:

a) are the AMD X2 4600 n 5000 as good as the conroes?
b) whats the L2 cache size of the x2 5000?

At the moment I believe based on previous knowledge the conroes i.e. e6600 upwards are better due to the fact they have larger cache's?? is this true?

All thoughts and comments would be most appreciated

Many thanks

Cheers!!!

In answer to your questions, the Conroe, or Intel Core 2 chips are superior because they are built on a better fabrication process (65 nm) and the microarchitecture of the chip is better than AMD's offerings. They are generally quicker, run cooler and consume less energy.

The X2 5000+ has 512KB cache per core so 1MB total.

Also, the 6300, and 6400 and still conroe chips. They are just named wrongly on this website :p

a) No, C2D > anything on the market atm, plus they can be clocked to stupid speed makes them THE chip to buy if you are getting a new rig.

b) 2* 512KB, 2* 1MB is only available from 5200+ upwards, including the FX62, AMD has stopped 2* 1MB on lower end X2s.

Larger cache doesn't neccessary mean better performance in many cases, but it is certainly handy in some applications.

E6300 & E6400 are conroe chips with half L2 Cache disabled which makes them Allendale chips, spec wise.

Yep c2d's are the best available at the moment

If you are on a tight budget consider the e4300, cheap mobo and cheap ddr2 ram, if not 6600 and clock the hell out of it all the way!

No point in spending money on old technology

Actually they are Conroe chips with half the cache.
It is the E4xxx line which is the true Allendale line.
