pls help me solve this

Hi,

I have three desktop computers which have 1 eternet cable port in each which is occupied I need to connect all three computers together (somehow) whilst 1 computer is connected via USB to a hard drive…

What type of wire would connect each of the three desktop’s together? Each are using xp pro.

Or can I use a device (not a router to do this)

If you really don't want a router, then a switch will do the trick, as will a hub if you want to do it cheap

A switch would be fine, and you could also connect it to your router should you need connection to a WAN.

Curious why you specified not using a router though.

By not using a router, the main pc with Internet access will need to on so the other PCs can access the net. You are better off with a cheap router.
