Plug monitor into graphics card socket?

Hi, first timer here.

Should I plug my monitor into my graphics card or the socket on the motherboard i/o ports? Does the graphics card actually need to be connected to the monitor?

Fwiw the graphics card is the evga geforce gtx 750ti sc and I have an old Dell monitor.
